Recently elected as the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ganduje has set his sights on securing the party’s success in the upcoming governorship polls in Imo, Kogi, and Bayelsa, scheduled for November 11, 2023.
This appointment came after the National Executive Committee (NEC) elected him during its 12th meeting held in Abuja on Thursday.
However, Ganduje faces an uphill battle as the APC confronts formidable opposition in these three states. Each gubernatorial election presents unique challenges, making his task as the party’s leader a formidable one.
In Imo State, the gubernatorial election is shaping up to be a tough competition, with incumbent governor Hope Uzodinma seeking to retain his position amidst challenges from Sen. Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Sen. Athan Achonu of the Labour Party (LP). The battle for Imo is intense, and Ganduje will need to strategize wisely to ensure the APC’s victory in the state.

Moving on to Kogi State, the ruling APC’s candidate, Ahmed Ododo, faces opposition from the PDP’s Dino Melaye. Additionally, the Social Democratic Party’s (SDP) Muritala Yakubu Ajaka is also expected to provide formidable competition to both candidates. With the successorship of Yahaya Bello at stake, the election becomes crucial for the party’s prospects. Ganduje must rally the party’s forces and galvanize support to ensure victory in Kogi.
Bayelsa State, on the other hand, witnesses a fierce contest as incumbent Governor Douye Diri seeks re-election. His main challenger is former governor and Minister of Petroleum (State), Timipre Sylva, who previously governed from 2008 to 2012. The APC’s ambitions in Bayelsa depend on Ganduje’s ability to unify the party and garner widespread support.

As the newly appointed National Chairman, Ganduje has his work cut out for him. Securing victories in Imo, Kogi, and Bayelsa won’t be an easy feat, but his leadership skills and strategic decisions will be put to the test. The success or failure in these governorship polls could significantly impact the future trajectory of the APC.
Furthermore, it’s noteworthy that Senator Basiru Ajibola has been appointed as the National Secretary of the party, which means that Ganduje will have a team to work with in his efforts to redeem the party’s promise to win these crucial guber elections.
The road ahead is challenging, but with determination, strategic planning, and a united party, Ganduje could indeed lead the APC to victory in these states.
The political landscape is dynamic, and the outcome of these elections will not only shape the future of the APC but also have broader implications for Nigeria’s political landscape. Only time will tell if Ganduje can rise to the occasion and deliver on the party’s promises.
