Oba Lurge, an independent Nigerian rapper who carved a niche for himself after releasing his 2019 hit single Uncle London, has recently signed a distribution deal with Universal Music Nigeria.
He is currently putting finishing touches to his self-acclaimed EP Son Of George which is due to be released in August 2022. Ep promises guest appearances from legendary afrobeat singer Iyanya, Crossroadz, Holyfield, Mk, Billiebeats and a host of some of the finest creatives on the continent.
His next single The Return Of Ojua Ojupang, is a Eulogy for his maternal great grand Father Ojua, a musician in the ’60s who hails from a village called Bashu in the Boki Local government area of Cross River State but was nicknamed Ojua Ojupang (Killer Of A Lion) after killing a lion on his farm.
I feel a lot like my great grandfather and learning about him helped me understand myself better I see a lot of his traits in me, it feels like I’m a reincarnation of him and it feels good to be reborn the rapper says.
I always wondered where the love and drive for music sprang from after making music for over 10 years without making any money off it.
Sh*t is deeper than life
Young old man na me dey pilot my life
You can do all that you want cos in the end imma shine
The return of Ojua Ojujpan I’m in town
Feels good to know that it started with you
Now I’m signed to Universal imma do what it do
I’ll keep the heritage of family alive.
Oba Lurge
