Nigerians have expressed excitement as the Guinness World Record on Tuesday validated Hilda Baci as the world record holder for the longest cooking session by an individual.
The Quest Times reports that Hilda Baci on May 15 displaced India’s Lata London to set the longest time for an individual cooking session with over 100 hours on the clock pending validation by the GWR.
After what looked like an eternal wait for validation, the GWR on Tuesday, June 13, confirmed Hilda Baci as the new record holder for the longest cooking session by an individual to a rapturous reception from Nigerians.
In a statement confirming Baci’s record, the GWR stated that although she cooked for 100 hours, seven hours were deducted from her final total because she mistakenly took extra minutes for one of her rest breaks early on in the attempt.”
The GWR also revealed that its website crashed for two days due to unusual traffic from Nigerians who were checking up on Hilda Baci’s verification progress.

Excerpts from the statement read, “Hilda’s cook-a-thon was in fact so popular that our website crashed for two days due to the immense volume of traffic we received from her legion of loyal fans.”
Following her confirmation, Nigerians took to social media to celebrate the news. Most posted congratulatory messages, while other took the opportunity to fire more shots at Chef Dammy who ironically crossed Hilda’s 100-hour mark today.
Here are some reactions gathered by The Quest Times

@ToyosiGodwin If Hilda Baci had done 96 hours, she’d have had only 89 hours credited to her. (after they deduct the 7 hours). What if they had subtracted 9 hours? Those extra 4 hours saved her. In life, sometimes you have to aspire to perspire the rewire so things won’t Maguire

@dondekojo GWR didn’t award the 100 hours claimed by Hilda Baci but 93 hours 11 minutes. She’ll take it. Congratulations to her.
@UgwunnaEjikem Omo GWR legit removed 7 hours from Hilda Baci’s 100 hours before handing her the award (93 hours). This one I hear say Chef Dammy been dey sleep, if dem review her own, she fit dey owe GWR a few hours(-24 hours)
Congratulations Hilda Baci 🎊🎉
The greatest lesson here is that Hilda did not stop even after surpassing the 87 hours set by Lata Tondon.
She went all the way to 100 hours and the decision to do so helped her set a new world record despite GWR taking away 7hours!!!

@Irunnia_ Congratulations Hilda Baci. Guinness Book of Records just announced her as the record holder for the longest Cookathon ever. We are waiting for Dammy to finish with her own so Ekitipikin can announce her as the winner for Ekiti book of records
@lollypeezle They removed 7 hours, odindin 7 hours from Hilda Baci Record. Someone who cooked with her life o. Someone is now doing daku daji with cooking. By the time GWR is done with Chef Dammy, she will manage her 47 minutes cooking record. Ere ko la wa shey.
@DanielRegha Hilda Baci is officially a GWR holder, congrats; But her over-excitement proves that she wasn’t really supporting Chef Dami; Cos if Dami had broken the record first, she won’t be happy. So why the fake support? Hilda also reportedly spending 80m for her cookathon is ridiculous.
With Hilda Baci being named the new GWR record holder for the cooking competition, it will take at least a year before another person can attempt it.
So other cooks can rest for now 🤪

@just__halal Hilda Baci miscalculated her resting time dem comot 7hrs and chef dammy dey sleep overnight, even off gas. By the time they review her she do dey owe GWR 100hrs.
