In the aftermath of Nigerian chef Hilda Baci’s Guinness world record feat for the longest cooking session by an individual, Nigerians have either been motivated or pushed to embark on their own record-breaking journeys.
The Quest Times reports that Hilda Baci gained global acclaim after she displaced Indian chef Lata Tondon to become the holder of the Guinness World Record for longest cooking session by an individual. Chef Baci put in an astonishing 100hrs but was rewarded with 93 hours and 11 minutes which was enough to usurp Tondon’s record of 87 hours, 45 minutes set in 2019.
Following Baci’s feat, Nigerians across all works of life set forth to either challenge Hilda’s cooking record or set theirs in other endeavors ranging from cooking to massaging. The craze for setting Guinness World Records, pit Nigerians against each other, as observers felt the potential record holders lacked ideas and originality.
In light of the numerous attempts, Hilda Baci was asked about her thoughts on Nigerians moving to dislodge her as a record holder and set other records, she stated that she sees herself as an inspiration and trailblazer.
She said, “I believe I initiated a movement or acted as a trailblazer because only a true trailblazer can initiate something that others aspire to do.”
“The reason behind this is the success of my record-breaking feat. It was executed with great precision and witnessing its excellence has motivated others to think, ‘I want to try this too.’ This simply means that I have ignited a sense of inspiration.”
