Reactions to comments made by All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate Bola Tinubu concerning the country’s exchange rate as an attack on President Muhammadu Buhari’s government have continued.
The reactions followed attempts by the Tinubu campaign to downplay the incident that took place this week at the U.J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar, the capital of the Cross River state, by claiming it wasn’t an attack on President Buhari.
Tinubu’s spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, distanced the APC candidate from casting aspersions on President Buhari’s character at the U.J Esuene Stadium.
At the Calabar rally, the APC candidate lamented the country’s deteriorating exchange rate.
According to Tinubu, the naira/dollar exchange rate was at N200 to the dollar when the government took over, but it has now depreciated to around N800 to the dollar on the parallel market.
Nigerians were unanimous in their views that Tinubu’s diatribes were, in reality, against the current administration in a sequence of messages that QUEST TIMES monitored on Twitter.
A user @GenericFlavour said “For posterity sake, don’t you think you should be truthful? The antecedents you’ve shown since the campaign started suggested that you’re anti-democracy and pro-Tinubu. A video we all watched? Who then is in charge of the country as dollar rose to an all-time high? Despicable!”.
@Franklinbayo “@fkeyamo will explain and over explain so long Tinubu keeps campaigning. This man has got a very tough job”
@Albazzini “Don’t know if this Apc pcc actually process what they speak..blaming pdp for the exchange rate after 8yrs.Truly Apc/Tinubu and co have nothing to offer Nigerians but hardship, suffering, insecurity, food explosion, fuel and diesel spike.Nigerians need to get it right this Feb 25th”.
@sleeks2010 “Why are some of this APC people so disconnected with there principal, he will be saying something else and the will be saying another”.
@francota07 “Now I can see why exactly Tinubu said in that video that the people in APC cannot think. Because if he specifically said they took exchange rate from 200 to 800 and you feel you can spin this another way then you truly cannot think”.
@proff_kitchen14 “We don’t want any body to explain English to us pls,we can interprete what we read, the statement is clear”
@betterNAIJA2023 “Why is it that APC people always come after Tinubu has committed errors to mop up his errors. They will divert the issues. Is their candidate empty upstairs?”.
@SimplyTEEWHY “This is the way they will come out to be explaining away the international and local embarrassments Tinubu will bring on Nigeria if you (in)directly vote for him”.
@fecomnet2 “Yes, it was an attack on Obi as a trader, Atiku Míkano importer and Sowore as Vendor because they in charge of the economy”.
