The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, in-line with the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered massive deployment across the state to ensure adequate security and safety during the planned protest of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC.
With the protest scheduled for February 27 and 28, CP Olufemi emphasized the importance of preventing any attempts to hijack the protest, thereby maintaining peace and order in the state.
Addressing Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, and DPOs during an interactive session, CP Olufemi instructed them to implement measures to prevent any breakdown of law and order during the protest period.
In furtherance of this goal, the Commissioner of Police convened a stakeholders meeting with leaders of labour unions on February 22. During the meeting, strategies were discussed to ensure a peaceful protest.
CP Olufemi underscored the police’s obligation to safeguard the lives and property of all citizens, including protesters. However, he issued a stern warning against any form of violence, stating that it would be met with the full force of the law.
To bolster security efforts, undercover operatives from the State Intelligence Department (SID) have been deployed to gather intelligence and report any suspicious activities.
Various tactical teams, including Safer Highway, Dragon Patrol, Safe Delta, and others, have also been mobilized to support the security operations. Additional personnel from the Department of Operations, Area Commands, and Divisions have been assigned to key locations across the state.
CP Olufemi reassured the public of their safety and urged them to carry on with their lawful activities without fear. He emphasized that participation in the protest is voluntary and that no one should be coerced into joining.
Members of the public were urged to promptly report any incidents or suspicious behavior to the nearest police station or contact the Command Control number 08036684974.
