Supporters of Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 general elections on Thursday came down hard on Doyin Okupe, a chieftain of the party for praising President Bola Tinubu’s efforts so far since assumption of office.
Okupe, a former director-general of the LP presidential campaign council in a post on his X (formerly Twitter) handle had said President Tinubu is an achiever who actually hit the ground running since coming to office on May 29.
In the post titled ‘For President Bola Tinubu: Still Many Rivers to Cross’, Okupe had praised President Tinubu for the removal of fuel subsidy and the unification of the foreign exchange rate.
Part of the post reads “President Bola Tinubu actually hit the ground sprinting; showing much determination, zeal commitment and courage. He has taken 2 extraordinarily bold steps by abolishing fuel subsidy and equalizing foreign exchange”.
“In conclusion, I personally believe that President Bola Tinubu is a thinker and an achiever”.
“I have therefore enumerated the points above just to stimulate thoughts and actions and draw attention to areas which I consider if exploited, will add value to the plans of the current administration, increase revenue inflow to the country, reduce hardship and combat poverty”.
Many supporters of Obi who are known as Obidients were miffed at Okupe’s post and described him as a traitor who is seeking patronage from President Tinubu. Others also announced that they have unfollowed him.
Mayowa Adediran @Gbemilekhe posted “If this turnaround is due to fear of being invited by the EFCC, bush meat will eventually catch the hunter one day. Your generation has let us down, but in our own lifetime, Nigeria will rise again!”.
Responding to Okupe’s post, @buzox_eth said “Thank you for showing us where you’ve always belonged
Despite the hardship brought by this government on Nigerians, you’re giving these accolades”.
@hyacinth_okeke wrote “It’s a pity you abandoned the good struggle. However, I do understand your ‘protective stand’, it’ll go a million step saving you from whatever I don’t even know. May God help you. Amen”
Also responding to Okupe’s post @vonasc wrote “Sir with all due respect your integrity is at stake, how will the children and youths you led yesterday and gave them hope trust the elderly? Elders are failing with pride over their sins”.
