Erling Haaland and Bukayo Saka Garner PFA Award Nominations for Outstanding Seasons

Erling Haaland and Bukayo Saka have been acknowledged for their remarkable performances this season with two nominations each for the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) awards.

Manchester City’s dominance in the 2022/23 season, clinching the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup titles, was powered by Haaland’s impressive showing. Haaland’s exceptional achievements have earned him spots as a top contender for both the PFA Player of the Year award and the Young Player of the Year award. Joining him is 21-year-old Bukayo Saka, who had a standout season with Arsenal, contributing 14 goals and 11 assists in the Premier League. The nominations are decided through a vote among fellow players.

The PFA Player of the Year shortlist also features Kevin De Bruyne, a pivotal figure for Manchester City with 10 goals and 31 assists in 49 games, and John Stones, who showcased his versatility as a reliable defender and adept holding midfielder. Stones’ adaptability and intelligence were highly praised.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal, who led the Premier League title race for a significant portion of the season, has representation from Saka and Martin Odegaard on the nominee list. Odegaard, known for his creative flair, tallied 15 goals and eight assists in the Premier League.

Completing the lineup for the player of the year award is Harry Kane, who delivered yet another stellar season despite playing for a struggling Tottenham side. Kane’s outstanding campaign, featuring 30 goals in 38 games, coincided with his departure to Bayern Munich, marking a potential farewell to the Premier League.

In the category of young players, two nominations apiece come from Arsenal and Brighton. Alongside Saka, his 22-year-old teammate Gabriel Martinelli secured a spot after recording 15 goals and five assists in the Premier League.

Brighton’s impressive sixth-place finish was bolstered by their emerging talents. Moises Caicedo, 21, stood out as a commanding presence in midfield and earned recognition as the league’s most expensive player following a £115 million transfer to Chelsea. Also hailing from Brighton is 18-year-old Evan Ferguson, who caught attention with six goals and two assists.

Aston Villa’s 22-year-old midfield sensation Jacob Ramsey completes the list of young player nominees, having contributed six goals and seven assists.
