Ladi Adebutu, the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, has arrived back in Nigeria. He arrived in Lagos on Friday night following a six-month stay in the United Kingdom for medical reasons.
The homecoming was marked by a warm reception led by his running mate, Adekunle Akinlade, along with PDP leaders in Ogun State, including Tola Banjo. Afolabi Orekoya, Adebutu’s media aide, officially confirmed the return of the prominent politician.
This development comes amidst previous accusations from the All Progressives Congress (APC), claiming that Adebutu was evading legal proceedings related to alleged vote-buying during the March 18 governorship election in the state. Tunde Oladunjoye, the APC State Publicity Secretary, had challenged Adebutu to return and face the law, dismissing Adebutu’s assertions of threats to his life.
In response to these accusations, Adebutu maintained that his extended stay in the UK was necessitated by health concerns stemming from the aftermath of the general elections. Despite political pressure urging his return, Adebutu affirmed his commitment to addressing health issues before actively engaging in local politics.
