Nollywood actor, Azeez Ijaduade, in a recent incident at Iperu, Ogun State, found himself in the line of fire, as a policeman reportedly shot in an attempt to disperse a crowd.
As gathered by Quest Times, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Abiodun Alamutu, expressed his condemnation of the shooting and visited Ijaduade at the Babcock University Teaching Hospital.
Alamutu, who arrived at the hospital around 11 am on Sunday, disclosed in an exclusive interview with PUNCH, that the officer responsible for the incident is already facing disciplinary actions.
The commissioner explained that the policeman fired a warning shot into the air to scatter a group of thugs surrounding the person he was assigned to protect, but the bullet unfortunately hit Ijaduade, who is now receiving treatment.
He also emphasized the unfortunate nature of the incident, expressing relief that the actor is in stable condition.
Alamutu further mentioned that Ijaduade would be discharged once certified okay by doctors, and reassured the public that every effort would be made to avoid loss of life.
Describing the incident, he stated, “It was actually an unfortunate incident, but from all indications, I have seen the victim, it was not a direct hit. Actually, some people were trying to mob the principal the policeman was attached with, in a bit to scare them off, he had to fire some shots. It was unfortunate the victim was within that axis. It was the shell that hit the victim.”
Alamutu added that the involved policeman is undergoing disciplinary procedures, highlighting the importance of ensuring officers display professionalism in such situations.
Conclusively, he emphasized that while there are times when officers may need to use force to disperse crowds, this specific incident cannot be justified, as the officer must be held accountable.
