Former Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke, has debunked recent claims of granting a London interview where she purportedly begged President Bola Tinubu for permission to return to Nigeria and confess to financial misconduct during her tenure.
The interview, reported by a newspaper and shared by the EFCC on Instagram, has been debunked by Mrs. Alison-Madueke, who described it as “fake” and “concocted.”
In an exclusive interview with PREMIUM TIMES, Mrs. Alison-Madueke, who fled Nigeria in 2015 and currently faces corruption charges in Nigeria and the UK, clarified that she did not grant any interview and did not make the statements attributed to her in the alleged London confession.
In response, the EFCC, while acknowledging the Instagram post, distanced itself from the unauthorized content. Spokesperson Dele Oyewale stated that the unsigned post did not originate from the EFCC, emphasizing that anything not signed by him is not an official communication from the commission.
The Zamfara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party criticized the EFCC for allowing fake news on its platform, demanding a prompt disclaimer and apology. The party argued that pulling down the fake story is not sufficient and called for accountability.
Mrs. Alison-Madueke, facing corruption charges in Nigeria and the UK, maintains her innocence amid ongoing legal battles.
