Kingsley Moghalu, a former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, has expressed serious reservations about the performance of ex-CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele, labeling him as the worst in the history of the apex bank.
Quest Times reports that Moghalu, in a statement via his verified X handle on Saturday, raised concerns about a report related to CBN, allegedly investigated and appointed by President Bola Tinubu, that surfaced without proper signatures or official statements from the President and his administration.
Pointing to issues such as Emefiele’s handling of the naira exchange rate, inflation, questionable lending practices, and an alleged unlawful attempt to run for president, Moghalu strongly criticized the former governor, asserting, “He is, without debate, the worst and most damaging Central Bank Governor in Nigeria’s history- incompetent and ill-prepared for the role.”
Expressing skepticism about the authenticity of the leaked report, Moghalu emphasized that such sensitive matters should be addressed with utmost care, avoiding premature media trials that could harm the reputation of individuals involved.
Moghalu also called for a broader focus on corruption, suggesting that entities like the NNPC should undergo similar scrutiny.
He argued that tackling corruption requires a comprehensive approach rather than isolated media trials, emphasizing the need for a holistic transformation in Nigeria’s political leadership culture and governance.
