The Ondo State House of Assembly has declared Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa as Acting Governor following months of political turmoil in the state.
The move is in response to Governor Rotimi Akeredolu’s imminent medical trip for a follow-check up abroad which was contained in a letter addressed to the state’s lawmakers.
Upon receiving the letter on behalf of fellow lawmakers, the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olamide Oladiji, affirmed that the Governor’s decision aligns with Section 190 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended).
As per the communicated directive, Hon. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, the Deputy Governor, is set to step into the role of Acting Governor until a formal declaration indicates otherwise. The commencement of the medical leave is slated for Wednesday, 13th December 2023.
Expressing gratitude for the Governor’s swift recovery, Speaker Oladiji voiced optimism regarding Governor Akeredolu’s prompt return to his official duties.
