Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State has taken a step towards alleviating the impact of subsidy removal by introducing measures to support the people.
Free shuttle buses will be provided for workers and students, making transportation easier and lessening the burden of subsidy removal.
In addition to this, Governor Oyebanji has given the green light for a monthly cash allowance of N5,000 to be distributed to 10,000 households from August to December 2023, with special consideration for the elderly.

To further assist the citizens, certain actions have been approved, such as clearing one month’s pension arrears for state and local government pensioners, implementing salary adjustments for specific government workers, and providing improved allowances for health workers at the local government level.
Other notable initiatives include the immediate payment of subvention arrears to tertiary institutions, involving 10,000 individuals in the Ulera Wa health insurance program, initiating a food distribution plan, and providing support for farmers and small businesses in the informal sector.
These actions stem from recommendations made by a committee chaired by the state finance commissioner, Akintunde Oyebode, and approved by Governor Oyebanji. The aim is to ease the impact of subsidy removal and ensure the well-being of the people of Ekiti State.
