Manchester City’s manager, Pep Guardiola, has shared his thoughts on Jurgen Klopp’s upcoming departure from Liverpool at the end of the season.
Guardiola expressed a mix of surprise and satisfaction, stating that he will “sleep a little bit easier” without Klopp as Liverpool’s manager.
After securing a 2-0 victory over Tottenham in the FA Cup, Guardiola spoke to ITV Sports, acknowleding Liverpool as their biggest rival in recent years. He highlighted the personal rivalry with Klopp from their time at Dortmund, expressing that Klopp will be missed not only as a rival but also as an exceptional person.
While admitting that he is pleased to face Liverpool without Klopp as the manager, Guardiola wished him all the best and predicted Klopp’s return to management in the future.
He said: “I am a little bit surprised.
“He is an incredible manager. I don’t know him closely but he is an incredible person as well. I have a feeling that at the end of the season when he is leaving, part of us at Man City is leaving too.
“Liverpool has been our biggest rival in recent years. Personally, he at Dortmund was also my biggest rival. So he will be missed. Personally, I will miss him.
“I am a bit pleased because without him I will be sleeping a little bit better the nights before we play Liverpool. But I wish him all the best. He doesn’t admit it but he will be back.”
