President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr. Samuel James as Acting Rector at the Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa. This decision, made temporarily until a permanent Rector is appointed, was conveyed in a letter dated January 23, 2024, signed by Dr. A.U. Ejeh, Director of Polytechnic Education and Allied Institutions at the Federal Ministry of Education.
Dr. Munir Ahmad, the Polytechnic’s Registrar, received this official communication. The announcement took place in Nasarawa Local Government Area on Friday, revealed by Safina Sabo, the Acting Director of Information and Publicity for the institution.
Dr. James steps into the position following the conclusion of Dr. Abdullahi Alhassan’s term as the previous Rector. Sabo explained that Dr. James, previously the Polytechnic’s Deputy Rector, Academics, is now the Acting Rector until a permanent replacement is found.
The Federal Ministry of Education made this decision after Dr. Alhassan’s five-year term ended on December 31, 2023. An earlier report by DAILY POST on January 15 highlighted Dr. James initially being appointed as the institution’s overseer by the outgoing Rector, Dr. Abdullahi Alhassan Ahmed, leading to controversy due to potential violations of the Polytechnic Act.
Expressing gratitude, the newly appointed Acting Rector, Dr. Samuel James, thanked God and the Federal Ministry of Education for the chance to serve. He pledged collaborative efforts with the Polytechnic’s management and staff to attain crucial goals and contribute to the institution’s progress.
