Super Eagles head coach, Jose Peseiro, is set to quit Nigeria’s first team as he eyes a coaching position at Egyptian club, Zamalek SC. Reports from the Egyptian website, Kooora, reveal that Peseiro is among several coaches who have submitted their resumes for consideration.
Zamalek is on the lookout for a new coach following the recent dismissal of Colombian Juan Carlos Osorio due to unsatisfactory results. A trustworthy source within the club confirmed Peseiro’s candidacy, stating, “Jose Peseiro is among the names already nominated to lead Zamalek. However, he does not have any preferential treatment and is just one of many CVs on the board of directors’ table.”
Peseiro’s decision to pursue the coaching position at Zamalek might raise eyebrows within his current role at the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). The 63-year-old recently signed a new short-term contract with the NFF in the summer.
However, his tenure with the Super Eagles has faced criticism, particularly after their lackluster start to the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign. The team is yet to secure a victory after two games, culminating in a 1-1 draw against the Warriors of Zimbabwe on Sunday.
