The Super Eagles faced another setback with a 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe, and Coach Jose Peseiro points fingers at the grueling travels for the lackluster performance.
In a disappointing start to the World Cup qualifiers, Nigeria’s Super Eagles found themselves drawing 1-1 against both Lesotho and Zimbabwe. The latest match in Rwanda’s Huye Stadium witnessed Nigeria fighting back to salvage a point.
Manager Jose Peseiro sheds light on his team’s subpar display, emphasizing the toll taken by extensive journeys.
“It was a challenging trip from Nigeria, with long hours of flight. The players didn’t get enough rest for a sharp performance at the same level,” explained Peseiro during the post-match press conference.
Admitting the overall performance was lacking, Peseiro acknowledged a stark difference between the two halves. “First half, very bad, second half, much better.”
Star player Alex Iwobi echoed Peseiro’s sentiments about the demanding travel schedule but emphasized the need for professionalism.
“The travel was demanding for us. After the game against Lesotho, we had to endure a four-hour flight and then another three-hour coach journey down here, which wasn’t easy. But as players, we shouldn’t use that as an excuse. We’re professional enough, and we have lots of quality in the side,” remarked Iwobi.
