Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), has finally broken his silence on the recent judgement of the Supreme Court upholding President Bola Tinubu as the winner of the February 25th presidential election.
Peter Obi who reacted to the pronouncement of the supreme court, stated that the judgment of the court has dashed the hopes of majority of Nigerians by sacrificing justice for political expediency.
This was disclosed by Peter Obi on Monday, in Abuja, during a press conference.
However, the LP standard bearer further said, as democrats, he, the vice presidential candidate, Dr. Datti Baba-Ahmed, have exhausted all legal means to challenge the 2023 general elections.
While, acknowledging defeat, Peter Obi noted that Labour party is now ready to take the message of a new Nigeria to the grassroots.
Recall, on Thursday, October 26th, the Supreme Court had declared President Bola Tinubu’s victory.
The seven-member panel, led by Justice John Inyang-Okoro, dismissed the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Atiku Abubakar, who came second in the election, and Obi who came third.
Furthermore, the court affirmed that the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate was the valid winner of the presidential election that was held on February 25th.
Meanwhile, the former Anambra State Governor (Obi), noted that the judgment would not signify the end of the Obidient movement, while adding that with the legal battle over, the Labour Party was now in opposition.
Obi said, “In the coming months we will build the party, we will make it stronger. We will build those young people. We will come out stronger and more committed to a new Nigeria”.
