Those present include Mele Kyari, CEO of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), NLC president Joe Ajaero, Oyo state governor Seyi Makinde, TUC president Festus Osifo, and Dele Alake, special adviser to the president on special duties, communication, and strategy.
The labour union leaders are seeking assurances from the government to effectively and promptly address concerns related to the removal of petrol subsidy, particularly for Nigerians facing economic challenges.
President Bola Tinubu had announced the end of the petrol subsidy regime during his inaugural address on May 29, which resulted in a hike in petrol prices, increased transportation costs, and soaring inflation across various market segments.
