The Nigeria Police Force has announced plans to investigate an unidentified man seen in a viral video firing gunshots into the air to celebrate the reopening of the popular Ladipo Market in Lagos State.
On Tuesday, a viral video was shared on social media X, formerly Twitter, a man was seen shooting into the air while people present around the market were seen cheering him on.
The Force Spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, released a statement on Tuesday via a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), he said the man would be identified.
Recall, that the Lagos State Government had in September 2023 closed down four markets in Lagos, which also included the Ladipo Market in the Mushin area of the state.
The market is famously known as a busy hub for buying and selling of motor vehicle spare parts in Lagos state.
Ladipo Market was shut down for non-compliance with the state’s environmental laws, which include unhygienic disposal and management of waste by traders.
However, the market was reopened this week by the authorities in the state including the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA).
The reopening of the market cast a celebratory mood, which led jubilant traders in the market to troop out. One of those captured in viral videos celebrating the reopening of the market was a middle-aged man wielding an AK-47 rifle which he shot upwards in the air amid the excited cheers of his colleagues.
In addition, The Force spokesman (Adejobi) said, “This has been sent to the Lagos state command for necessary action. We will identify the man with the AK47 and do the needful. Thanks.”
