There was a mild drama at the Senate on Tuesday when Senator Ali Ndume, the Chief Whip, stormed out of the chamber in frustration.
Tensions had been growing as Senator Ndume raised concerns, citing the Senate Rule Book’s Order 54, to address that Senate President Godswill Akpabio was not following the rules in how he was handling things.
Ndume said: “Mr. President there are some things we do in this chamber that are against the rules. Sir, nobody is too big to learn.”
However, Akpabio abruptly ended Ndume’s speech before ruling him out of order, causing further agitation.
Clearly angered by this, Ndume walked out of the chamber and went to his office.

Issues concerning Akpabio’s management of Senate affairs have been a cause of concern among some Senators, including Ndume. Their efforts to bring these issues to the Senate President’s attention were met with resistance, as Akpabio insisted that he was doing the right thing.
