In an address at the Vatican on Monday, Pope Francis, aged 87, urged the world to put an end to surrogacy, calling it a “grave violation.”
Surrogacy, defined as a woman having a baby for another unable to do so, was labeled “deplorable” by the pontiff.
Emphasizing the dignity of both women and children, the Pope stated, “The path to peace calls for respect for life,” highlighting the unborn child’s sanctity in the mother’s womb.
Quest Times further reports that he criticized surrogate motherhood, condemning it as a practice that exploits vulnerable situations and represents a serious violation of dignity.
“A child is always a gift and never the basis of a commercial contract,” the Pope asserted, expressing his hope for a universal ban on this practice.
Back in June 2022, the Pope had already denounced surrogacy as an “inhuman” practice, reiterating his stance against its continuation.
