In a recent memo dated January 5, 2024, and signed by Pastor Oladele Balogun, the Special Assistant to the General Overseer on Administration, the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) led by Pastor Enoch Adeboye, justified its decision to limit preaching in its parishes to recognized members only.
Titled “Invitation of Guest Ministers in RCCG,” the memo reiterated a directive stating that no external preacher, speaker, or minister should be allowed on the church’s altars or platforms, as learned by Quest Times.
This directive was communicated to Continental Overseers, Deputy Continental Overseers, Assistant Continental Overseers, and Pastors in charge of Regions/Provinces globally.
The memo emphasized that anyone intending to invite a guest minister must ensure the individual is a recognized member of the RCCG.
Violating this directive could lead to severe disciplinary measures, including potential relief from ministerial duties within the Mission.
In an interview with newsmen on Monday night, Pastor Olaitan Olubiyi, the RCCG Head of Media and Public Relations, clarified that the memo was not a complete ban, but a guideline.
“It’s supposed to be an internal document. And it’s not a ban per se, it’s just a kind of rule or guideline. What the church is saying is that before any of our branches invite a preacher from another church or another ministry, clearance should be sought,” Olubiyi said.
He explained that the church seeks internal approvals before external members are invited to preach, ensuring alignment with RCCG’s doctrines and beliefs.
According to Olubiyi, this guideline is in line with the church’s standard maintenance, ensuring that external preachers align with RCCG’s principles when addressing congregations in their parishes.
