Organised Labour has kicked against the plan of the Federal Government to privatize the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), while noting the negative impact it would have on the country’s economy.
The Federal Government had earlier announced its plan to sell TCN to private companies, however, the decision was met with stiff opposition from the labour union.
The union warned that it would worsen the socio-economic conditions of Nigerians among many other issues.
According to the President of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, the planned privatization poses danger to the growth of the power sector thereby causing great fear and worry for major stakeholders within the power sector.
In addition, NLC called on Nigerians to rise and speak against the movement, in order to safeguard the interest of future generations, arguing that “It imperils the ability of the state to control, regulate and guarantee the safety of the nation’s grid system at all times.”
