Reactions have started to trail the inclusion of Nigeria’s President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu in TIME’s 100 influential people in the world list.
Tinubu made the list alongside notable figures such as King Charles III of the United Kingdom, US President Joe Biden, and Twitter CEO Elon Musk.
Other notable figures on the list include US Senator Mitch McConnell, Argentine football legend Lionel Messi, and several entertainers such as US actor Michael B. Jordan, singer Beyonce, and actress Angela Bassett.
In reaction to his inclusion, opinions on social media were split as Tinubu supporters cheered the inclusion, while some taunted political opposition with the development. Meanwhile others questioned his inclusion, harping on his forfeiture of $460,000 dollars for being proceeds of heroin trafficking, and his victory in the controversial 2023 elections.
Here are some reactions gathered by The Quest Times;
@MrOdanz So Bola Tinubu made it into the list of Time Magazine 100 most influential people in the world for the year 2023. The only Nigerian to make the list. That is how much the international community cares about the recent Nigerian election. We have 4-8 years to restrategize
@BashirAhmaad Bola Tinubu is on the @TIME’s 100 Most Influential People. Another letter must be sent to the White House, the last one didn’t work o.
@Spotlight_Abby Anyone that reads that @Time 100 most influential people article on Tinubu will know it is simply a paid PR job, but instead of polishing BAT’S image, Time just endorsed him as the face of corruption in Nigeria. The writer’s words were unflattering, tentative & uninspiring.
@IamEwo Tinubu being listed as one of the most influential people reminds me so much of when Forbes listed and celebrated Invictus Obi. An American court later established that Obi made his fortune through fraud. He’s currently serving jail time in America. Even Hushpuppy could…
@Oløye he only criteria to be on the TIME magazine list is to be one of the most talked about people in the world in that year. TIME magazine makes no judgement on the character of the people they platform. E.g Abubakar Shekau, Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Somoza. Now, Tinubu.
@firstladyship Influence is positive or negative. In Tinubu’s case, it’s negative. Go & read this Positive Time Magazine’s article on Peter Obi. Come back & tell me the difference. Obidents made no fuss about this. But I understand why Agbado are desperate for any small validation. E NO EASY
@DrTheodo Poor @astharajvanshi , Nigerians have made her lock all her accounts. Dear Astha Rajvanshi, I hope you understand why Nigerians are at rage with you and the Time Magazine. Bola Tinubu was INDICTED for heroine trafficking and money laundering in Chicago Illinois USA which he had.
@GoziconC Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not yet the President, but he has made it to the 2023 Time Magazine 100 most influential people in the world. Those trying to pull Asiwaju down will Labour in vain.
