Nigerians have taken to social media to express their displeasure over the recent increase in fuel price on Tuesday, July 18, 2023.
Nigerians who are already dealing with the fallout of fuel subsidy removal which led to an increase in price per litre from N184 to between N480-N570, in June 2023, and also rising food prices have now been dealt another blow with this latest increase.
With talks of DISCOs seeking a rate review for electricity tariff in the coming days, already burdened Nigerians took to social media to express their displeasure over the latest increase with fuel selling for N560 in Lagos state and N617 in Abuja.
They expressed worries that transportation and food prices which experienced a massive hike after the fuel subsidy removal will soon increase in response to the fuel price hike.
Here are some reactions gathered by The Quest Times
@AbRaheemMuhd You voted because of tribe and religion. Now both you and I are buying fuel at the same price because the only language and religion the fuel attendants understand is Money. I know tomorrow you will still repeat the same mistake because you are a Nigerian anyways!
@usikpedocharle1 The present Nigeria Labour Congress Leader is a puppet. Workers are now buying fuel with the entire salary and he is keeping mute. If you’re not ready, please resign.
@firstladyship BREAKING: NNPC fuel price is now N617 per liter. I hope you’re enjoying the renewed shege?

@Waspapping Fuel price has gone up to N617 per litre Keep joining APC members that are on a payroll to defend nonsense to applaud this anti-human policies by BAT administration. Fuel attendants won’t ask for your party before selling you Fuel.

@Inkaset I’m not entirely sure I understand Nigerians. I thought we all agreed subsidy removal was a good thing and we all knew it would affect fuel prices. So why this ‘surprise’ every time a hike in price is declared? I genuinely would like to understand.
@alamin_ghost Anyone who says that this unrealistic fuel price spike is for the betterment of Nigeria or Nigerians deserves serious beating ! How can we be buying petrol at 617 per liter that’s insane. Tinubu might just be worse than buhari
Tinubu allow the poor breathe!!!
The price of fuel is suffocating us.

@abazwhyllz I was about driving out to see a friend, and I noticed my fuel tank was almost empty. So I drove to a nearby filling station,I saw the fuel price reading 617 naira. So I took a step of faith. I stepped down from my car, shouted Akanbi 7 times, and boom , the price changed for only me to 143 naira. This Tinubu govt is already favouring me.
@DemolaRewaju The NNPC is still manipulating the pricing of petrol daily and anyone thinks this market is truly deregulated? Very obvious to any onlooker, that cabals are the ones running this APC regime and using CBN and NNPC in the absence of managers to manipulate forex and petroleum.
@Elkrosmediahub Proposed N8000 monthly for the ‘poor’, increased fuel price by over N100 per litre. By the time they are done with us, we woulda realized elections have consequences.
