The Edo State Government has taken decisive action in response to an unfortunate incident that occurred during a recent colloquium. The government has disbanded the media crew associated with the Office of the Deputy Governor, and has issued a directive for the Deputy Governor to seek media coverage for his activities from the Ministry of Communication and Orientation.
The incident in question unfolded during the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Midwest Referendum, held at the Sir Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub and Soundstage. Journalists who identified themselves as members of the Deputy Governor’s media crew attempted to enter the hall where the governor and other esteemed dignitaries were already seated. This attempt, however, ran counter to the established accreditation protocol for media coverage of the event.
The disruption caused by this unauthorized entry, orchestrated and stage-managed, has been met with deep regret from the authorities.

Chris Osa Nehikhare, the Honorable Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, signed the directive. He emphasized the importance of adhering to proper procedures for media coverage to ensure orderly and respectful proceedings at such events.
This decision signals the government’s commitment to maintaining professionalism and decorum in official functions while also fostering a harmonious working relationship between government offices and the media.
With this new directive in place, the Deputy Governor’s office will now collaborate with the Ministry of Communication and Orientation to ensure that future media coverage aligns with established protocols and enhances the credibility of the state’s communication efforts.

Edo govt disbands Deputy Governor’s media crew, directs Ministry of Communication to step in
The Edo State Government has disbanded the media crew attached to the Office of the Deputy Governor, with a directive to the Deputy Governor to henceforth request the Ministry of Communication and Orientation for media coverage of activities of his office.
This directive followed the ugly and unfortunate incident that happened during the colloquium held to mark the 60th anniversary of Midwest Referendum held at the Sir Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub and Soundstage, where some journalists, who claimed to be the media crew of the Deputy Governor, attempted to force their way into the hall where the governor and other invited dignitaries were already seated.
This act was contrary to the accreditation protocol that had been established for media coverage of the event.
The orchestrated and stage-managed walkout and disruption is highly regrettable.
