To enhance the security measures during the upcoming yuletide season, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun is set to convene a meeting with Deputy Inspectors General of Police (DIGs), Assistant Inspectors General of Police, Commissioners of Police (CPs), and other high-ranking commanders within the Police Force.
The announcement of this meeting was made in a statement by Force spokesman Ademuyiwa Adejobi on Sunday.
Scheduled to take place at the Force Headquarters in Abuja on Monday, the meeting aims to address various security issues and assess the effectiveness of the Police’s anti-crime strategies in promoting peace and order across the country. The statement emphasized that the IGP will present the achievements of the Police over the last 10 weeks.
“The meeting, which is at the instance of the IGP, would address many security issues and review Police’s anti-crime strategies for efficiency and effectiveness towards peace and order in our dear country,” the statement read.
It further conveyed that the meeting would involve key figures such as Commissioners of Police and above, along with other tactical commanders. The statement stressed the importance of collective efforts to ensure adequate security for all citizens in Nigeria.
Nigeria has been grappling with a range of security challenges, including terrorism in the North-East, banditry in the North-West and North-Central, militancy and oil theft in the Niger Delta region, calls for secession in the South-East, and criminal activities such as kidnapping for ransom and ritual killings in the South-West.
Despite the ongoing efforts of the police and other security agencies, criminal elements continue to carry out their activities, causing concern among the population. The upcoming meeting is expected to contribute to the ongoing efforts to address these security challenges and maintain order throughout the country.
