Africa Magic, a popular cable channel brand under the MultiChoice umbrella, is all set to launch a new indigenous drama series this September.
Indigenous Yoruba drama series, ‘Apo’; Igbo series, ‘Iwe’; and Hausa drama series, ‘Kariya’ are all scheduled to premiere during the month.
The Yoruba drama series “Apo (Bag)” is a 26-episode series set in a rural town in the southwestern part of Nigeria. It is described as ‘a thematic story of poverty, greed, family feuds, sibling rivalries, marital wars, and divorce, woven around a mystery bag containing money, charms, and a gun, found by six poor tenants of Mr. Olanrewaju’.

“Kariya (Sanctuary)” is a 26-episode Hausa series about a couple on the brink of divorce, whose home is invaded by armed robbers on the run from the police. They must present a united front to survive the long night.
“Iwe (Anger)” is an 80-episode drama set in pre-colonial Igbo land. It tells the story of two kingdoms, once brothers ages ago, but now separated by decades of resentment, jealousy, and greed.
Busola Tejumola, the Executive Head of Content and West Africa Channels at MultiChoice commented on the new shows, stating that the series is a continuation of MultiChoice’s commitment to telling unique African stories that resonate with the realities of Nigerian and African audiences. In her words, “Africa Magic is dedicated to telling stories that relate to the everyday life of Africans, showcasing our cultural nuances, values, struggles, and triumphs.”
