Footballer, Amir Nasr-Azadani, was taken into custody in the city of Isfahan, two days after an unproven fact of his affiliation with an “armed riot” protesting women’s rights.
Social media users and international bodies have expressed distaste in the inhumane judgment given to Amir Nasr-Azadani.
The global union for professional football players safeguarding the rights and interests of players, in a tweet said; “FIFPRO is shocked and sickened by reports that professional footballer Amir Nasr-Azadani faces execution in Iran after campaigning for women’s rights and basic freedom in his country.
“We stand in solidarity with Amir and call for the immediate removal of his punishment.”
A user @Waseem_C11 said: “Could be a lie to ramp up anti-Iran sentiment which is part of the US & Israel’s geopolitical aims, kind of like how lies were willfully spread before the Iraq War. I’d like to hear views of proper authorities in Iran if this is indeed so instead of being fooled again by media.”
@RegistaUnite: “Most of the Quranic text”. That says a lot. The Quran states that “Men are managers of the affairs of women because Allah has made the one superior to the other”. Clear example of the sexism in the Quran”.
@norunwise: “How about doing something to help him instead of just releasing a statement”.
@willekie “Individual Iranian players face huge consequences for themselves and their families for their actions. This is why organisations should take action. Starting with FIFA banning Iran from international football. It did not take them long to ban Russia.”
@MrTruckStopTV: “Questions is, when will the bulk of Iranians stand up and say enough is enough?”
@FranKiffin: “This is why I’m glad I live in America. Some places in the world, you have no rights simply for being a woman. You have no rights in protesting against mass human rights abuses. Iranian women and all DESERVE to have basic freedoms.”
@Nivabgr: “None of these people who have gotten death sentence are murderers. They even have not killed anyone for self defense. IR is randomly executing people to create fear among protesters. If you believe otherwise you have been deceived by IR propaganda.”
