Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), has designated Friday, April 21, 2023, as Eid el-Fitr day.
The federal government announced same-day and Monday official holidays.
The Sultan, who announced the sighting of the new moon of Shawwal in a broadcast said reports were received from different traditional and community leaders across the state, which were screened and verified by both national and sultanate moon sighting committee.
He called on Muslims in the country to observe the Eid el-Fitri celebration today in line with the laid down Islamic rules and regulations.
“I have the pleasure to inform you that the new moon of Shawwal has been sighted today, Thursday, 29th day of Ramadan 1444 which is equivalent to April 20, 2023,” the Sultan said.
While congratulating the Muslims for successfully completing the Ramadan, the Sultan prayed Allah to accept all our religious deeds, and reward us with his paradise.
