Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, has clinched the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) ticket to contest for the Sokoto South Senatorial district seat in the Senate in the coming 2023 general elections.
The former Speaker of the House of Representatives who is rumoured to have eyes on the Senate Presidency, is vying to represent a senatorial district which encompasses seven (7) Local Government Areas (Bodinga, Dange/Shuni, Kebbe, Shagari, Tambuwal, Tureta, and Yabo LGAs).

Recall that Tambuwal stepped down for PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, on the day of the party’s national convention on Saturday, May 28, 2022.
Tambuwal is set to battle the incumbent, Senator Danbaba Dambuwa who recently jumped ship from the PDP to the APC.
