Tension is being reported in the agrarian, ldoani community, in the Ose council area of Ondo state, after a naval officer was murdered by suspected hoodlums.
Some other naval officers who stormed the community allegedly went on a rampage and vowed to avenge the murder of their colleague, as residents in the community expressed fears.
Several residents have scampered for safety, while shops and markets were hurriedly shut following the tension that gripped the community.
The youths in the community have fled to neighbouring communities for fear of indiscriminate arrest by the military officer, VANGUARD Newspapers reports.
A source in the community, who spoke to newsmen, said the naval officer mistakenly splash water on a passenger on a motorcycle while driving and trying to avoid some potholes on the road.
He was said to have parked his car, alighted, and apologized to the motorcyclist simply identified as Ayo, who allegedly commands the thugs in the community, who refused to listen to all the pleas from the officer.
Ayo was alleged to have sent words to hoodlums in the town who later invaded the scene and they reportedly attacked the officer.
The deceased naval officer was said to have been hit with an iron rod on his head, following which he lost consciousness. Adding that the officer died before he was rushed to the hospital and was confirmed dead by the doctor.
The motorcyclist was later arrested and handed over to the police while one of the suspects who hit the officer with the iron rod had fled the community, the source said.
