The All Progressives Congress (APC) has expressed openess to welcome former Edo state deputy governor, Philip Shaibu, into its ranks, according to Senator Ajibola Basiru, the party’s national secretary.
Speaking during an interactive session with journalists in Osogbo, Osun State’s capital, Basiru likened the political party to a school, noting that just like in a school, the decision to accept or decline an applicant lies with the party leadership.
He also addressed the upcoming elections in Ondo and Edo states, expressing confidence in APC’s chances. Basiru referenced the party’s success in securing two out of three senatorial seats in Edo state during the 2023 general elections as a testament to their strength.
Basiru stated, “My approach is this: a political party is like a school; you cannot tell somebody that somebody should not be your classmate in the school. It is the proprietor of the school that will determine whether you should be admitted or not.
“When Shaibu applies to the relevant arm of the party, then the application will be taken and considered.
“A political party is a free entry and exit organization, and in politics, the more, the merrier, the more people you can bring to your doorstep.”
