As controversy continues to trail the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) choice of presidential candidate for the 2023 general elections, Kaduna State Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai insists that Asiwaju Bola Tinubu should not have contested for the position given his age and diminishing strength.
In a video recorded in July 2022 and which is just trending on social media, the governor said although some people don’t agree with him, older politicians should leave the stage for younger persons, alluding to the fact that Tinubu is not the right presidential candidate for the APC.
Justifying his stance on the need for more competent people to be considered for elective positions, the governor said: “when you get to this age, you should thank God and leave the scene for others to carry on because even your strength is diminishing, that is how I see things but some people don’t see it that way and they don’t agree with me.
“Even Asiwaju himself doesn’t agree with me, but I keep making this point to him. Two days ago while we were talking we still disagreed on this matter with him,” El-Rufai argued.
It will be recalled that many analysts and even chieftains of political parties in the country have faulted APC’s choice of Tinubu as its candidate, citing his age and health status, among others, as reasons for their opinion.
