The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has released its December 2023 report, revealing a nationwide surge in the average price of 5kg LPG (cooking gas). The cost spiked by 8.70%, jumping from N4,565.56 in December 2022 to N4,962.87 in December 2023.
Diving into the state-level details, Adamawa, Jigawa, and Ogun experienced the highest cooking gas prices, while states like Imo and Ebonyi in the South-East enjoyed lower rates.
Breaking it down by regions, the North-East led with an average retail price of N5,256.61, followed closely by the North-West at N5,144.50. In contrast, the South-East boasted the lowest at N4,155.59.
Top Ten States with Highest Cooking Gas Prices
- Adamawa: Topping the list, residents paid N5,725.33 in December 2023, witnessing a 16.05% increase from N4,933.33 in December 2022.
- Jigawa: The second-highest, Jigawa residents faced a price of N5,686.88, reflecting a 22.83% rise from N4,933.33 in December 2022.
- Lagos: Securing the third spot, Lagos residents paid N5,671.05, marking a 16.75% increase from December 2022.
- Oyo: In the fourth position, Oyo state witnessed an 18.47% surge, with a 5kg cylinder costing N5,625.79 in December 2023.
- Benue: Ranking fifth, Benue residents experienced a 13.66% increase, paying N5,550.56 in December 2023.
- Ogun: Occupying the sixth position, Ogun state saw a 27.03% rise, with the price reaching N5,500.55 for a 5kg cylinder.
- Bauchi: In seventh place, Bauchi state recorded a 22.23% increase, reaching N5,500.26 in December 2023.
- Kano: Holding the eighth spot, Kano residents faced a 21.93% rise, paying N5,446.24 in December 2023.
- Kaduna: Securing the ninth position, Kaduna experienced a 10.56% increase, with a 5kg cylinder priced at N5,403.23.
- Cross River: Rounding off the list, Cross River residents paid N5,373.75, witnessing a 15.39% increase from December 2022.
