In a startling and concerning development, a significant section of the road linking the Ikotun roundabout to neighboring communities in Lagos State, including Ejigbo, has suffered a catastrophic collapse.
This unfortunate incident was triggered by heavy rainfall on September 16, sending shockwaves throughout the affected area. As a result, residents and commuters find themselves in a state of bewilderment, with daily life disrupted in significant ways.
Reports indicate that this calamity has left daily commuters who rely on this road in a state of disarray and distress. With the road rendered impassable, traffic congestion has become a common sight, with motorists forced to navigate a single lane as they alternate the only available space left in the wake of the damage.
A local resident who identified himself as Ayoola lamented, “The road was in far better condition before erosion from the canal began to undermine its structural integrity. This damage has been progressing over the course of several years.

“Furthermore, the road has suffered from a glaring lack of proper maintenance since its construction. Had adequate maintenance been carried out, we might not have witnessed such a severe collapse, especially during the rainy season.”
Another resident, Idowu Sanusi, expressed frustration, alleging that despite a series of complaints to both local and state government authorities, the road had been left unattended and in a deteriorating state.
The Director of Media and Publicity Lagos Ministry of Works, Shina Odunuga, denied knowledge of the situation when contacted.
“I don’t know about it and I cannot respond to you on the phone,” Odunuga said.
With residents and commuters facing this dire situation, they are earnestly calling upon the government for immediate intervention and assistance to restore this vital transportation artery and alleviate their ongoing hardships.
