The United States Department of State has authorised the voluntary departure of non-emergency staff and their families from Nigeria over the heightened risk of terror attacks in Abuja.
The Quest Times reports that the U.S and U.K. embassies had on Sunday, October 23, 2022 issued warnings about potential terror attacks, especially in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital city.
The travel authorisation was contained in a travel advisory on the embassy’s website on Tuesday, October 25, 2022.
“On October 25, 2022, the Department authorized the departure of non-emergency U.S. government employees and family members due to the heightened risk of terrorist attacks,” the update reads.
“The U.S. Embassy Abuja continues to have limited ability to provide emergency assistance to U.S. citizens in Nigeria. The U.S. Consulate in Lagos is providing all routine and emergency services to U.S. citizens in Nigeria.”
