The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has formally declared Governor Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner of the governorship election in Ogun State.
Kayode Adebowale, the INEC State Returning Officer in the state, who announced the results on Sunday, said the APC candidate received 276,298 votes to win the hotly contested election.
Ladi Adebutu of the Peoples Democratic Party finished second with 262,383 votes, trailing the winner by 13,915 votes.
Abiodun triumphed in 12 of the state’s 20 local government areas, according to INEC.
Abiodun, the state’s incumbent governor, gained Ifo, Obafemi Owode, Adoodo Ota, Imeko Afon, Ipokia, Ijebu Ode, Ijebu North, Ewekoro, Yewa North, Yewa South, Abeokuta North, and Odeda Local Government Areas.
Abiodun is trailing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) nominee in eight local government areas, including Oladipupo Adebutu in Ijebu North East, Abeokuta South, Ikenne, Sagamu, Remo North, Ogun Waterside, and Ijebu East.
Biyi Otegbeye of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came third in the election.
This results indicate that Abiodun lost in the Ijebu North East, Sagamu, Abeokuta South, Remo North, and Ikenne LGAs where he won in the 2019 gubernatorial election.
