In a heartwarming scene captured on video, Usman Ododo, the governor-elect of Kogi state from the All Progressives Congress, was spotted expressing gratitude on his knees to Governor Yahaya Bello. This touching moment occurred shortly after Ododo received his certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Before the APC primaries, Ododo, the state’s Auditor-General, wasn’t initially considered a strong contender despite being the favored candidate of the outgoing governor, Yahaya Bello. Both Ododo and Bello share roots in Kogi Central and belong to the Ebira ethnic group.
However, in surprising turn of events, Ododo emerged victorious in a hard-fought election, securing 446,237 votes to defeat his closest rival, Murtala Ajaka of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), who scored 259,052 votes.
