Popular Twitter handle UberFacts has stated that it wasn’t paid to tweet about President-elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s forfeiture in a heroin trafficking case.
UberFacts had caused a stir on Nigerian social media on Monday after it tweeted about a court judgement ordering Tinubu to forfeit the sum of $460,000 for being proceeds of heroin trafficking.
The tweet reads, “In 1993, Bola Ahmed Tinubu surrendered $460,000 to the US government after a Chicago court found the income came from heroin trafficking.”
In response to allegations of being paid to malign Tinubu, UberFacts tweeted, “And no I wasn’t paid to post that, in cash, kernel or otherwise.”
Also in a move to quash doubts about the authenticity of the indictment, UberFacts revealed that the source for the tweet were U.S. court documents which are available to the public.
“RE Tinubu tweet. For clarification, the source was United States Court documents which are public records and available in their entirety here uberfacts.wiki/41foet7”
