The Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council reiterated on Sunday that its supporters will not abandon their planned nationwide demonstration unless the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) grants the Labour Party (LP) lawyers access to materials from the contentious presidential election on February 25.
This was revealed in a statement by Yunusa Tanko, the chief spokesman for the Obi campaign council, who stated that there would be no turning back on mobilizing supporters to occupy INEC offices across the country.
Tanko accused INEC of disobeying the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal’s order to provide Obi and the party with certified true copies of materials used in the election’s conduct.
Remember that the All Progressives Congress presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, received 8,794,726 votes to defeat the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and the Labour Party flag bearer, who received 6,984,520 and 6,101,533 votes, respectively.
Dissatisfied with the outcome, both Obi and Atiku petitioned the election tribunal for permission to inspect the voting materials.
The Court of Appeal in Abuja granted their requests for inspection of the electoral materials a few days later, but the commission refused to grant the warring parties access.
The development comes four days after INEC obtained a court injunction to reconfigure the Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) machines ahead of the March 18 governorship and state Assembly elections.
