In a move to embrace digital advancements, Zamfara State plans to allocate N1.3 billion from the 2024 budget to upgrade its state-owned radio and television stations, along with the Legacy Newspapers Company.
State Commissioner for Information and Culture, Mannir Haidara, shared this information in Gusau on Monday during a budget presentation to the state House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation.
Governor Dauda Lawal’s administration aims to revitalize the media industry in the state, as learned by Quest Times.
Haidara emphasized that the digitalization projects align with this vision, as the beneficiaries extend beyond radio and TV, including the Zamfara Censorship Board and the Information Technology Development Agency.
Haidara also outlined the comprehensive plan, stating, “The state government would implement total renovation and supply of modern equipment to Zamfara AM Radio stations, Gold City FM Radio, State-owned Legacy Newspapers Company and State Censorship Board.
“Other projects to be implemented include the building of newly established state-owned media corporation, supply of modern equipment, computers as well as procurement of vehicles.”
Acknowledging the positive revenue generation by the Information Ministry, Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Alhaji Halliru Abdullahi, praised their efforts and urged other government entities to follow suit in boosting the state’s Internally Generated Revenue.
