Ahead of the 2023 presidential election, Hafsat Abiola-Costello, daughter of the presumed winner of the June 1993 presidential election, late Moshood Abiola, has been named as the Director-General of the presidential campaign organisation of the Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello.
Also, the Director-General of the MKO Abiola Campaign Organisation and former Senate Deputy Leader, Jonathan Zwingina, has been named the national coordinator of the Yahaya Bello Presidential Campaign Organisation, and a former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, as deputy national coordinator.
The appointments were made in the wake of the formal declaration of Bello for the presidency slated for Saturday, April 2, in Abuja.
Mrs Abiola-Costello, 47, is a human rights and democracy activist and founder of Kudirat Initiative for Democracy (KIND), which seeks to promote democracy in Nigeria.
The organisation was named after her mother Kudirat, who was killed in June 1996 during the struggle to actualize the presidential mandate of her husband.
Governor Yahaya Bello, who is currently at Eagle Square to officially declare his intention to run for president come 2023, is from the North-central zone, (the same geopolitical zone as the new National Chairman of the party, Abdullahi Adamu).
Though it is not certain yet if APC will zone its presidential ticket to any particular section of the country or leave it open to all aspirants, it is however believed by some political commentators that Yahaya Bello might be eyeing a senatorial seat or ministerial position in the guise of joining the presidential race.
As it stands, let’s see how the game plays out in the coming days.
