An investigation by the Elites Network for Sustainable Development (ENetSuD) made available to THE QUEST TIMES on Friday, revealed that Kwara North has 272 communities, all of which lack primary schools despite their need for easier access to primary school education.
Kwara North comprises the following local Government Areas; Baruten, Edu, Moro, Kaiama, and Patigi respectively.
According to the research, there are no primary schools in these communities, and children who live there go to primary schools that are located in farther-off communities.
The report reveals that such challenging situations have security, mental, emotional, and health consequences on the pupils which discouraged many parents from enrolling their children into distant primary schools.
The report quoted ” Out of this Kwara North Senatorial burden: – 179 (65.81 %) communities were in Moro LGA; – 13 (4.78 %) communities were in Patigi LGA; – 20 (7.35 %) communities were in Edu LGA; – 23 (8.46 %) communities were in Baruten LGA; and – 37 (13.60 %) communities were in Kaiama LGA.
Speaking on the data, the Deputy Coordinator (Projects Tracking) of ENetSuD, Mr. Aliyu Mashood said ” The data is from us, that’s what we uncovered across the LGAs in Kwara state.
He stressed that they are engaging the state government to work on the data they have uncovered.
Rafiu Ajakaye, the chief press secretary to Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq, declined to comment when contacted by THE QUEST TIMES.
Instead, he directed this reporter to speak with the chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
Also, when reached, the state’s SUBEB spokesperson Mrs Atere, responded, “Write a letter and send it to the Executive Chairman of Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board, and I will follow up for an interview.”
