The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has revealed that the abductors of 137 Kuriga school children in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State have been neutralized during a rescue operation.
This comes after the military successfully rescued the kidnapped children in Zamfara State on March 24, 2024, following an intense clash between the terrorists and troops, with support from local authorities and government agencies.
General Buba disclosed that while the children were safely rescued, some of the terrorists responsible for their abduction were eliminated in the operation. He clarified, “Several terrorists were killed in military action, and no arrest was made.”
Furthermore, the DHQ emphasized its commitment to maintaining the effectiveness of its operational strategies, citing recent successful rescue missions in Sokoto and Kaduna States, where a total of 153 hostages were freed. General Buba reaffirmed the military’s dedication to understanding and addressing security challenges in a safer and more efficient manner.
The pupils, who endured 18 days in captivity, have been handed over to the Kaduna state government for necessary rehabilitation before reuniting with their families.
