The 2023 Labour Party, LP, presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has reiterated his commitment to rebuilding Nigeria amidst the internal turmoil within the Labour Party.
Speaking out against the recent LP’s National convention in Anambra State, Obi emphasized his dedication to the country’s progress over the formation of a new political party.
In a candid discussion on X Space hosted by Parallel Facts on Friday, Peter Obi expressed his reservations about the convention, citing a lack of adequate consultation with key stakeholders within the party.
He stressed the importance of inclusive decision-making processes to salvage the party’s integrity, stating, “We promised to build Nigeria, we did not promise to build a New Labour Party.”
Furthermore, Obi lent his support to the ‘Obidient’ movement, advocating for the establishment of a structured framework for its participation in the political arena.
“It is the standard practice around the world where movements form themselves into blocs and are part of the political process,” he added.
Amidst factional disputes led by Julius Abure and Apapa Lamidi, tension within the Labour Party has escalated, with conflicting claims to leadership.
The Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, has openly opposed Abure’s leadership, adding another layer of complexity to the party’s internal dynamics.
