The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon have landed in Abidjan, ready to face off against the Super Eagles of Nigeria in a highly anticipated clash in the AFCON Round of 16.
Led by Cameroon’s legend Rigobert Song, the team arrived in Cote d’Ivoire’s capital on Thursday, setting the stage for a potentially explosive encounter on Saturday. Cameroon, who faced a tough journey to the knockout rounds, secured their spot with a last-minute victory over The Gambia after a challenging 3-1 defeat to defending champions Senegal.
While Nigeria breezed through the group stage undefeated with seven points, Cameroon’s path was more turbulent. As per the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), these two giants have clashed 17 times since their first encounter in 1962. Nigeria holds the upper hand in their head-to-head record, winning nine of the 13 matches.
Cameroon, with four victories, including three Africa Cup of Nations finals, and one World Cup qualifier, is looking to defy the odds on Saturday. The Super Eagles, armed with Africa’s Player of the Year, Victor Osimhen, and a more favorable history at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny, aim to secure another triumph after their recent 1-0 victory over Guinea-Bissau.
