In a bid to resolve the ongoing impeachment controversy surrounding the Ondo State Deputy Governor, Lucky Ayedatiwa, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, has taken a decisive step.
The impeachment process against Ayedatiwa, initiated by the Ondo State House of Assembly, has accused him of misappropriating palliative funds and other offenses.
Amidst the turmoil, the Ondo deputy governor had taken legal action, dragging the Ondo Assembly, his principal, Rotimi Akeredolu, and others to court in an attempt to halt the impeachment proceedings. However, Ganduje has intervened by establishing a nine-member committee to address the crisis.
This committee, formed on Thursday, is under the leadership of former Katsina State governor, Aminu Masari.
According to a statement by Edwin Olofu, Ganduje’s Chief Press Secretary, the committee’s primary objective is to mediate the impeachment crisis and promote peaceful reconciliation among all parties involved.
Ganduje expressed the party’s deep concern about the unsettling political situation in Ondo State. He emphasized the need to prevent further discord among party members and underscored the importance of swift intervention.
He stated, “Therefore, in order to avert the misunderstanding, and after critical observation of the situation, the national secretariat has decided to wade in. With a view to foster a better understanding that may likely lead to an amicable resolution.”
Ganduje also appealed for calm from all parties concerned and assured party members that the committee would engage in productive dialogue with all stakeholders in the state, emphasizing mutual respect as a basis for resolving the crisis.
